Food Memories

A collection of illustrated food memories. We all know food is more than just fuel for the body. These food memories were collected during the Food Friends 2026 Summer BBQ. Food Friends is a UK charity that brings a community of people that cook, share and care to combat loneliness and isolation.

Hi, I'm Ruth the artist behind illoroo

A little about me... I studied illustration at the University of Portsmouth way back in 2004, but turned to teaching and worked as a primary school teacher until 2024.

I work mainly in charcoal and acrylic and my illustrations are often created using Procreate. I follow the same technique as my paintings as I do on the iPad. Creating the same effect but without the mess! 

I like to feature tablescapes, food, windows, and cats in my art, and almost always a little splash of neon!
